Cavtat Itinerary

Below is a detailed itinerary for an epic 5-day / 4-night stay in Cavtat, Croatia, designed to help you capture the essence of the town and its surroundings efficiently.

This itinerary offers a balanced mix of activities for a comprehensive experience, but remember, customization is key to fulfilling your personal vacation dreams. Whether you prefer lounging on the beach, indulging in local cuisine along the promenade, or immersing yourself in the rich history at nearby museums, the choice is yours.

Our itinerary is organized by priority, ensuring that if you have only three days, you can focus on the first three days of the plan, leaving out Day 4—The Konavle Experience—if needed. While we recommend specific dining spots that are favorites with our friends and family, feel free to explore other options that might align better with your culinary preferences. Our Cavtat restaurant guide is a great resource for this.

Lastly, while this itinerary serves as a solid foundation for your trip, we encourage you to conduct additional research to verify the availability of certain venues and activities during your visit. This proactive approach ensures a smooth and enjoyable adventure in Cavtat, where life is a simple pleasure.

Day 1 (Arrival Day)

10:15 AM - 11:00 AM: Arrival in Croatia

  • Land at Dubrovnik airport, collect your luggage, clear customs, and meet your driver. For more information on transportation options from the airport to Cavtat, including a car service provider we recommend, click here.

11:00 AM - 11:15 AM: Transfer to Hotel in Cavtat

  • The car ride from the airport to Cavtat should take approximately 5-7 minutes.

11:15 AM - 12:00 PM: Drop Off Luggage at Hotel

  • Drop off your luggage, change into some casual clothing with your bathing suit underneath, and grab a towel.

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM: 10-Minute Walk from Hotel to Lunch

12:30 PM - 01:30 PM: Lunch at Ankora on the Cavtat Promenade

  • If you fancy, definitely get the octopus salad, it’s one of my favorites for lunch.

01:30 PM - 02:00 PM: Walk to Swimming Spot

  • Post-lunch, step out from Ankora onto the Cavtat promenade and turn right, strolling with the sparkling Adriatic on your left as you circle the peninsula clockwise. Keep an eye out for inviting swim spots along the way that you might want to return to later in your trip. You’ll be walking for about 15 minutes to the tip of the peninsula, reaching Beach Kamen Mali (google maps), located right in front of the iconic Beach Bar Little Star (google maps), an epic cash-only spot. Here, you can grab a drink, soak up the sun, and dive into the stunning waters of Cavtat. If the waves at Kamen Mali seem a bit daunting for your first swim in Cavtat, continue your clockwise journey along the shore until you reach Beach Rat (google maps), a more accessible spot for a gentle swim. Just above Beach Rat is Rokotin (google maps), where you can enjoy a drink or coffee—it's more of a traditional restaurant than the laid-back vibe of Beach Bar Little Star.

02:00 PM - 03:30 PM: Beach Time

  • Relax, sunbathe, and enjoy swimming in the beautiful waters of Croatia. After a long flight and arriving in a new place, it's important to ease into your first swim. We've had a handful of guests experience a slight panic when jumping into the water for the first time. To avoid this, take your initial swim slowly and allow yourself to gradually acclimate to the new environment.

03:30 PM - 04:00 PM: Return Walk to Hotel

  • For your return walk to the hotel, you can either take the short route and continue walking with the water on your left clockwise around the peninsula, through Cavtat's main parking area towards the bus zone, then cut through the old town wall to rejoin the start of the waterfront promenade, or retrace your steps and walk counterclockwise back around the peninsula, with the water on your right, and end up on the promenade. I prefer the second option, as it’s a much more beautiful walk, and allows you to walk again on the promenade and take in the beauty of the Cavtat harbor.

04:00 PM - 04:30 PM: Hotel Check-in

04:30 PM - 06:00 PM: Evening Preparations

  • Use this time to rest and prepare for an epic evening out in the town of Cavtat.

06:00 PM - 06:15 PM: 5-Minute Walk from Hotel to Beach Bar Banac in Cavtat

  • Beach Bar Banac (google maps) is a cool little bar that has a deck that extends out into the Cavtat Harbor, with fabulous views of the harbor and the town of Cavtat.

05:45 PM - 06:45 PM: Pre-Dinner Drinks at Beach Bar Banac in Cavtat

  • Unwind with a selection of drinks at Beach Bar Banac, a popular local hangout and an ideal spot for a pre-dinner chill session in Cavtat. Located just five minutes from the promenade, this bar extends out over the water, offering stunning views of Cavtat and the bay. Since it's a bar, there's no need for reservations—simply walk in and find a spot. However, be aware that smoking is permitted here. If you prefer a smoke-free environment, check the surrounding tables for cigarettes or packs before settling in. To keep your evening flowing smoothly, especially if you're on a tight schedule, consider paying for your drinks as soon as they arrive to avoid waiting for the bill. During the day, the vibe is just as enjoyable. Rent a beach chair, soak up the sun, and enjoy a refreshing drink in this scenic setting.

07:30 PM - 09:30 PM: Dinner at Bugenvila in Cavtat

  • Savor a fabulous dinner at Bugenvila, one of Cavtat's premier dining destinations. Be sure to peek through the window into the stunning kitchen—a unique feature of this eatery. Reservations are highly recommended. If Bugenvila is a little to fancy, check out the rest of our Cavtat restaurant recommendations.

09:30 PM - 10:30 PM: Nighttime Stroll, Gelato or Cocktails in Cavtat

  • Wrap up your evening with a leisurely stroll along the Cavtat promenade, complemented by either a refreshing gelato or a sophisticated cocktail. Enjoy the vibrant nighttime atmosphere as you unwind.

Day 2: Explore Dubrovnik Old Town

08:00 AM - 08:30 AM: Grab a Coffee and Local Pastry

  • I recommend checking out Pastry & Coffee Shop Peco (Kneza Domagoja, 20210, Cavtat). For more info on pastry and coffee shops in Cavtat, click here.

08:30 AM - 09:15 AM: 45-Minute Water Taxi Ride from Cavtat to Dubrovnik

  • Enjoy the scenic sea route to one of Croatia's most famed destinations, starting in Cavtat where a water taxi will pick you up, and expect a 45 minute ride to Dubrovnik. For more information on Cavtat to Dubrovnik water taxis, click here.

09:30 AM - 10:30 AM: Walk the Old Town Perimeter Wall in Dubrovnik

  • Experience the historic fortifications offering panoramic views into the city and out to the Adriatic Sea. You're essentially walking around the entire old city, but doing so on the wall that surrounds the city. It takes about an hour, unless you’re really into getting that perfect instagram shot. We usually recommend guests get there first thing in the morning, as there’s zero shade as you walk the wall, and it can get scorching hot. You’ll buy your tickets near Onofrio's Large Fountain, and then ascend up some pretty steep steps to get onto the wall. The cost is 35 euro/person.

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Private Guided Tour of Dubrovnik

  • Delve deeper into the history and culture of Dubrovnik with a private 1.5-hour tour with Vedran Mezei is a renowned tour guide and best-selling author based in Dubrovnik. His rates are $100 for a 1.5 hour private tour. The best way to contact him and schedule a tour is via Whatsapp: +385953284521 or through his website at https://www.3keys-tours.com/contact . You can meet him once you come down from the wall, meeting at Onofrio's Large Fountain.

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM: Gondola Ride to Panorama Restaurant

  • Exit the old city to the North (only one way out through the gate) and head to the Dubrovnik Cable Car, where you’ll purchase a ticket to ascend to the top of the cable car ride, where you’ll enjoy a fabulous lunch, with an epic view of the city from above.

12:30 PM - 02:30 PM: Lunch at Panorama Restaurant

  • Savor the local cuisine with breathtaking views. This is one of the most popular restaurants in Dubrovnik, so a reservation is a must, and getting a reservation must be done months in advance. To get a reservation, use their website https://www.nautikarestaurants.com/panorama-restaurant-bar/#reservation, and when selecting a table, if possible, be sure to select “Tarrace front row” when making the reservation, as that’s the prime spot for an epic view of the old city. When you check-in at the restaurant, be sure to confirm they’re seating you in the “Tarrace front row” if you requested that in your reservation. The option “Tarrace second row” is still a fabulous experience, but it isn’t right on the edge of the mountain looking over Dubrovnik, it sits back a little further, and looks out over the ocean. It’s a good idea to call the restaurant the day of the reservation to confirm the reservation, and the terrace location.

02:30 PM - 03:00 PM: Gondola Ride Back Down to Dubrovnik

02:30 PM - 06:00 PM: Free Time in Dubrovnik

  • Choose to explore more of Dubrovnik (grab a cocktail at Buza Bar, shop the stores or grab a gelato), then return by water taxi to Cavtat, picking up the water taxi in the same spot it dropped you off in the morning. When you arrive back in Cavtat, go back for a nap, grab gelato, a drink at a bar, or grab your bathing suit, and go for a swim at any of the swimming spots you passed the first day in Cavtat.

06:00 PM - 07:00 PM: Pre-Dinner Drinks at Wine Bar Banac

  • Location: Cavtat Harbour, 20210, Cavtat, Croatia Situated across from Beach Bar Banac, Wine Bar Banac can be accessed by entering through two large doors in the concrete wall and ascending the stairs to a front lawn. Here, you'll find breathtaking views of the town and bay. While we don’t personally drink wine, feedback from friends indicates that the selection is somewhat expensive for the area. This reflects the growing popularity of Croatia among international tourists and the corresponding rise in prices. For other bar options in Cavtat, click here.

07:30 PM - 09:30 PM: Dinner at Ankora in Cavtat

  • Experience a delightful dinner at Ankora, a renowned restaurant in the heart of Cavtat. Enjoy the fresh, seasonal ingredients that are beautifully crafted into both traditional and innovative dishes. The restaurant's setting offers a warm ambiance, perfect for a relaxing evening. • This can either be done by hiring a car service for approximately 50 euro per hour, or using your own car.

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Self Guided Tour of Sokol Grad

  • You can purchase tickets to enter the castle at the bottom of the castle for 10 euro a person. Walking around the castle should take around 45 minutes, and can require navigating some very steep steps. Definitely make sure you get some good Instagram shots out over the gangway to the end of the wall.

11:00 AM - 11:30 PM: Drive from Sokol Grad to Lancana for lunch

11:30 AM - 01:00 PM: Lunch at Lancana

  • Lancana in Croatia is a charming, family-run restaurant in the picturesque village of Čilipi, nestled in the beautiful Konavle region. Offering a warm and inviting atmosphere, the outdoor seating area provides serene views of the lush Konavle landscape, with rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards creating a tranquil backdrop. Specializing in authentic Croatian cuisine with locally sourced ingredients and time-honored recipes, Lancana's menu features fresh seafood like grilled squid and octopus salad, alongside succulent grilled meats such as lamb and veal. A standout dish is the peka, a traditional meal of meat and vegetables slow-cooked under an iron bell, which must be ordered in advance. Seasonal vegetables, homemade bread, and local wines complement the main courses, making Lancana a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Konavle amid the laid-back countryside charm. A reservation is highly recommended.

01:00 PM - 01:30 PM: Drive from Lancana to Pasjača Beach
